"Necessity is the mother of invention."
Lori and I did this kind of impromptu inspiration shoot last week in my basement. We had no plan, and we started with only 3 things:
- A color palette
- A dozen plain white cupcakes
- A dozen pink spray roses
From there we just started pulling in things we already had on hand. We used scraps of gold and pink cardstock to make garlands and liners for our cake pedestals. We got really resourceful with objects and containers. Seriously, we pulled my bathroom makeup vanity table out to use for our buffet, and even did a floral arrangement in one of the drawers. Crazy, right?! We did a couple of other arrangements in a brass wine goblet and glass decanter. And those votive cups and punch glasses with the gold dots? They're just regular ol' votive cups and punch glasses that I got from Goodwill awhile back. We just put gold stickers on 'em. Sneaky!
I'm an event stylist, so I obviously had a few fancy-dancy pieces on hand - like that massive and glorious apothecary drink dispenser, but the point is that you don't need to have a massive collection of matching serveware and buy out the damask section of the party store to create a look that's cohesive and classy. Just start looking around your house!
On a very serious (not really) professional note, I do recommend starting with a color palette first, and THEN finding pieces that fit it. If you need help check out our browse by colors section to get inspired!
