Yeah, I know - we've been totally MIA since Wednesday, but we have a good excuse. We've been working on a styled photo shoot for you, and it's going to be AWESOME. Here's the story:
Our Showerbelle readers have shown lots of interest in mimosa bars, and then in May one of our readers wrote:
I'm hosting a shower in a few months and would love to do a mimosa bar, any suggestions on how to do one?
- Shannon B.
Sure, why not? So, we sent out some emails and made a few calls, and put together the most incredible mimosa bar tutorial ever. You will not even believe it until you see it. We've been working on it behind the scenes for the last 6 weeks, and we shot it yesterday morning on the new rooftop lounge at Patrick O' Shea's in downtown Louisville. We're still in "post-production," but I thought I'd treat you to some behind the scene peeks at the making of our champagne brunch rooftop photo shoot.
I like to start by doing a site visit to get a feel for the space. These pictures are from my first site visit back in May. We shot our mimosa bar and champagne brunch on the brand new rooftop lounge at Patrick O' Shea's.
After the site visit I laid out how we would use the space (above), and created a color palette (below).
From the palette and site visit I established and aesthetic for the shoot and shared it with the production team via a private Pinterest board. It's really important to establish a very defined style and palette early in the shoot so that everybody on the team can make decisions independently that add to the overall look of the shoot, as oppose to taking away from it with lots of different interpretations. I stole the above picture off of one of our model's instagrams, but I think it's a really good illustration of how consistent we are with our palettes throughout shoots.
After we plan, design, and coordinate the shoot we shoot it… seems obvious enough. These pictures were taken behind the scenes the day-of the shoot:
Nothing like shooting for 6 hours on a rooftop in 98 degree weather in full-makeup and wardrobe to make you appreciate a shower, air conditioning, and rest.
So, now that we've wrapped our shoot we're going to take a nap, and after that we're going to get back to creating more great content for you. Our shoot will be posted next month, and in the meantime we've got some good stuff coming your way this week, including part II of my interview with Ash & Light.
MANY thanks to all of the lovely vendors on the shoot:
