This weekend I helped out with a baby shower for my friend, Sara. She's expecting a baby boy this December, and has decorated her nursery in the most adorable woodland theme. Her mother Vicci, her mother-in-law, Nora, and I decided to carry that theme into her baby shower. Vicci and Sara's sister, Victoria, made the most precious owl and fox cakes and baby monkey cupcakes. We arranged the desserts on my beloved barn wood crate collection. Those things seriously come in handy for so many events. I made mini terrariums with felt foxes, owls, and hedgehogs that everyone seemed to love - probably because you can't go wrong when you put a tiny animal in a tiny container. Puppy in a cup, anyone? Nora had the event catered by Qdoba, which we all went crazy for! So. Good.
A Different Kind of Shower
But here is the most amazing magical part - Sara. She is seriously the sweetest and she radiates beauty. Sara has been one of my most loyal and sincere friends since we first met as freshmen in college. She and her husband Andrew are so inspiring because they are genuinely trying to make the world a better place by leading a socially conscious lifestyle. What I loved most about Sara's baby shower was that in lieu of gifts, she asked the donations be brought for TAPP. TAPP is a program that allows pregnant teenage girls to complete their high school education. I thought this was a wonderful idea because we were still able to shower Sara with love (and some gifts) while helping women and babes in need. It's this kind of thinking that formed the foundation for Showerbelle, and in the coming months I'm hoping to write more on the subject and feature more charity bridal and baby showers.
